District Festival Competitions are held annually
in 47 locations throughout the province
Beginning in March and ending in May. Scholarships and awards are available locally at each District Festival. Please refer to the individual festival pages below for detailed information (festival dates, entry fees, scholarships restrictions, etc.).

To be eligible for an award or scholarship, a participant must:
- Be 19 years of age or younger according to festival rules; and
- Have lived in or studied in the RMs of Estevan, Lampman, Benson, Coalfields, Cymri, and Cambria a minimum of 6 months; or
- Be furthering their education elsewhere, but still supported by parents living in Estevan and the above-mentioned RMs.
Other students are welcome for adjudication and to qualify for provincials and Canada West competitions.
All scholarships and awards are not necessarily given in any one year. The decision of the adjudicators is final.

BOURSES ET PRIX DÉCERNÉS

Scholarship Regulations
Scholarships & Awards will be awarded to Kindersley District and Oyen District participants only. These participants are defined as:
- Students residing within the boundaries of the former Kindersley School Division; Oyen, Plenty, Dodsland area students.
- Any student furthering their education elsewhere, but still supported by parents living in former Kindersley or Oyen School Districts; Pupils of Kindersley, Oyen, Plenty, Dodsland music teachers regardless of (student’s) residence.
- A resident of the Kindersley District or Oyen area, studying with an outside teacher.
In order to qualify for a scholarship or award, a competitor must:
- Piano and Speech Art Disciplines – Enter and compete in at least two solo classes in the same discipline. School Choruses and Choral Speech classes do not qualify as a second class.
- Vocal & Musical Theatre disciplines enter and compete in at least two solo classes in Vocal or Musical Theatre.
- Instrumental Disciplines (Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, Strings) – Enter and compete in at least two classes in the same discipline, at least one class being a solo.
- Duets, Ensembles or Chorus/Choir Awards in any discipline will be awarded on the merit of those performances only. Adjudicator’s decision is final on whether the quality of a performance warrants a scholarship or award. Where performance is not up to a satisfactory standard, scholarship or award may not be presented.
Eligibility of a participant to compete: Adult music teachers who have students competing in the Kindersley District Music Festival are ineligible to compete, in the same discipline as their students. All teachers are welcome to enter the festival for adjudication only.
Requests for Programming Changes, after the program has been published, will be considered under the following circumstances and stipulations:
- That the participant will perform for the adjudicator “For Adjudication Only”
- The arrangements for a different time or place in program will be made by collaboration between the session coordinator and the adjudicator, and not disrupt the regular program for other participants.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS
Competitors must perform in at least two solo classes in the same discipline to qualify for a scholarship or award.
To be eligible for a scholarship in the STRINGS discipline, the participant must enter two or more classes in the same discipline, one of which may be a SMALL ensemble. (A small ensemble is defined as a group consisting of between two and eight players.)
To be eligible for a solo Vocal or solo Musical Theatre award, competitors must perform in at least two solo classes, which can be from either discipline or a combination of the two disciplines.
Scholarships and awards are restricted to competitors residing within 70 km or whose teacher resides within the boundary. Competition is open to all Saskatchewan residents or those residing within 100 km of any Saskatchewan border.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS
Competitors must perform in two classes of the same discipline to qualify for a scholarship or award. Participants must reside within 100 km radius of the town of Spiritwood, or be students of our supporting teachers, in order to qualify for scholarships. There is no limit to the number of times a student can be selected as the Outstanding Performer of the Festival, but the student may not be selected for more than two (2) consecutive years.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS
To qualify for a Borderland scholarship or award, each performer must:
- enter and perform at least TWO classes in the same discipline (i.e. two piano classes or two vocal classes). These classes include solo or duet classes.
- reside in the communities of Bengough, Coronach, Ogema, Pangman or Rockglen.
Competition is open to all Saskatchewan residents and those residing within 100 km of the Saskatchewan border. Participants from outside the Borderland area may enter for Adjudication and Recommendation to Provincials.
Not all scholarships may be awarded. All scholarships and awards are awarded at the Adjudicator’s discretion. A list of Scholarships & Awards will be printed in the district festival program.
Requests for locally added “Additions to Syllabus Classes” must be made in writing to the Committee prior to their January 2022 meeting. A complete list of classes may be obtained from the Secretary.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS
The LDMF welcomes all competitors to enter for the educational experience. In order to qualify for a scholarship or award, participants must perform at least two times in the same discipline (e.g., two musical theatre, two voice or two piano). Competitors of all ages need only compete in one solo speech arts class to qualify for speech art scholarships. Participants 12 years & under will qualify with 1 voice entry, 1 musical theatre entry or 1 piano entry. These classes include solos. Duets & groups of 3 or more do not qualify as an individual performance. To be eligible for scholarships, competitors must have a primary residence within the District (Lafleche, Fir Mountain, Glentworth, McCord, Ferland, Mankota, Hazenmore, Kincaid, Meyronne & Woodrow) or must receive instruction within our District. The Entry Secretary should be contacted for full details.

LMDMF SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS:
In order to qualify for a scholarship or an award, participants must:
- Be 19 years of age or younger
- Attend school within the boundaries, or the music teacher must live within these boundaries:
Last Mountain & District Music Festival geographical boundaries
- Participants must perform at least two solo selections in the same discipline in order to qualify for an award or scholarship.
- For Musical Theatre classes, a participant must perform at least one selection in the Voice Discipline along with the Musical Theatre class in order to qualify for an award or scholarship.
- For Band Classes where the class requires two selection, this will qualify the entrant for an award or scholarship.
- In other disciplines where it is difficult to enter into two different classes, as long as the participant (or majority of participants in the group) has entered into another discipline, the adjudicator has authority to choose whether the participant qualifies for an award.
- A participant entering in a “popular music” class, must also enter in a classical category, in order to qualify for a scholarship or award.

Entrants from all Saskatchewan locations are most welcome at our festival, however, those that reside in an area that has a local SMFA festival are not eligible for scholarships. (This provision does not apply to those who study with a teacher that resides and teaches from within Qu’Appelle Valley Music Festival District area).

The David Dahlgren Music Scholarship for one year of theory instruction with David Dahlgren of Moosomin is available. Camp Scholarships are available. Specific requirements must be met for these. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Absolutely no substitution of piece will be allowed by our festival after the entry deadline. Those making such a request will be allowed to perform the piece for “adjudication only”.
